My journey reflects the power of versatility, big-picture thinking, and the ability to connect the dots across various domains.
Welcome to the world of Pete Burge—a creative strategist, problem solver, and dynamic generalist with a career that defies conventional pathways.
I began my professional journey on the snowy slopes as a snowboard instructor, where I first honed my ability to build rapport and develop emotional intelligence—skills that would become the cornerstone of my multifaceted career. My experience in fostering quick connections and understanding people on an emotional level became the bedrock for every role that followed.
From the mountains, I transitioned into the realm of youth work, where I further refined my emotional intelligence and self-awareness, working closely with individuals to help them navigate life's challenges. This period deepened my understanding of human dynamics and prepared me for the next leap in my career.
Driven by a passion for storytelling, I returned to university to study filmmaking and media. During this time, I worked for free on films, learning the craft hands-on and immersing myself in every aspect of production. This dedication led to an opportunity at The Australian Channel, where I worked my way up to Senior Editor. Under the mentorship of industry veteran Peter Faiman, I mastered creative problem-solving and quickly rose to take over the TV department, driving innovation and efficiency that culminated in a Webbey award.
My journey continued with a hybrid producer role at Foxtel, where I delved into the technical side of television, further expanding my skill set. This was followed by a significant stint at The White Agency, where I first tasted agency life. Despite clashing with the traditional creative department structure, this experience cemented my realization that my true strength lay in being a generalist—a creative force capable of conceptualizing ideas and executing them through writing, producing, and directing.
Venturing into the freelance world, I built strong relationships with clients like Newscorp, where I truly showcased my versatility. From live multi-media events to video production, soundscapes, and set design, my work earned me the reputation of a “Triple Threat”—a term coined by Kojo to describe my ability to write, produce, and direct with equal proficiency.
The onset of the pandemic saw me pivot into digital entrepreneurship, founding a telehealth service for mental health peer workers. I built the entire platform using no-code tools, enabling people to book counseling sessions seamlessly online—a testament to my adaptability and commitment to making a difference.
Today, I continue to leverage my generalist skill set as a consultant with Super Screen Australia, where I help drive operational workflow improvements, craft compelling tender responses, lead creative workshops, develop branding strategies, and oversee content creation. My journey reflects the power of versatility, big-picture thinking, and the ability to connect the dots across various domains.
